The Jaco River runs through the beautiful Costa Rican country side on the drive from San Jose to Uvita.

They really prefer brackish water but they stay by the Jaco River bridge because they are fed.

No one is really sure how many rivers they occupy so most rivers in Costa Rica have crocodile warning signs.

We stopped to have lunch at a Tico soda. "Soda" is the Costa Rican name for their version of fast Costa Rican food resturants. Yum!!!

Small boats take you across Bahia Ballena to Cano Island ahead. It's a 1 hour trip one way.

Along the way you see dolphins, flying fish and whales at the right time of year. The whales were gone by the time we made the trip.

Isla del Cano or Cano Island is a Park and Reserve. The water is warm and clear with all sorts of tropical fish.

Most of the fish hang out around these rocks. It's truly beautiful under water!!! We also saw turtles, rays, sharks and an eel.

Typical boats used for the trip across Bahia Ballena ( Whale Bay) to Cano Island. They have to pay an entry fee to the park before their group can begin to snorkel or dive.

After our trip we returned to Uvita. The water at this beach was extremely shallow for a long distance out into the bay.
