shibuisue: The Jaco River runs through the beautiful Costa Rican country side on the drive from San Jose to Uvita.
shibuisue: Beware of crocs in the river!!!
shibuisue: They get large! This is a six foot long croc!
shibuisue: They really prefer brackish water but they stay by the Jaco River bridge because they are fed.
shibuisue: They are now a tourist attraction.
shibuisue: No one is really sure how many rivers they occupy so most rivers in Costa Rica have crocodile warning signs.
shibuisue: Tourist traps at the Jaco River bridge.
shibuisue: We stopped to have lunch at a Tico soda. "Soda" is the Costa Rican name for their version of fast Costa Rican food resturants. Yum!!!
shibuisue: Sunset at the beach in Uvita our first night on the Pacific coast.
shibuisue: Small boats take you across Bahia Ballena to Cano Island ahead. It's a 1 hour trip one way.
shibuisue: Along the way you see dolphins, flying fish and whales at the right time of year. The whales were gone by the time we made the trip.
shibuisue: Isla del Cano or Cano Island is a Park and Reserve. The water is warm and clear with all sorts of tropical fish.
shibuisue: Most of the fish hang out around these rocks. It's truly beautiful under water!!! We also saw turtles, rays, sharks and an eel.
shibuisue: Another shot of the rocks around Cano Island. The water was clear and 83 degrees F.
shibuisue: Boats lined up at Cano Island for diving and snorkeling.
shibuisue: Typical boats used for the trip across Bahia Ballena ( Whale Bay) to Cano Island. They have to pay an entry fee to the park before their group can begin to snorkel or dive.
shibuisue: Joelle getting ready to dive.
shibuisue: After our trip we returned to Uvita. The water at this beach was extremely shallow for a long distance out into the bay.
shibuisue: Our group headed back to the cars for a ride to the dive shop.
shibuisue: Joelle and her gear.
shibuisue: The sign at the river that drained into this bay. This was right near the cars.
shibuisue: Our own personal dry jungle in Uvita. We walked this road to our cabina.
shibuisue: Another view.
shibuisue: Our host had a starfruit tree. It was full of ripe starfruits!!!
shibuisue: Bananas or plantains?
shibuisue: Flowers on the grounds of our cabina. It was very hot and humid even during the dry season.
shibuisue: Another shot taken on the walk to our cabina.
shibuisue: Ginger along the way.
shibuisue: Hanging heliconia.
shibuisue: Ventana I think.
