SewLibra: Last member to join the family, a Janome 900CPX Coverpro coverstitch machine. Purchased 04/29/2016. Knit hems are a breeze now!
SewLibra: Hemline dust cover on my Janome 900CPX coverstitch machine. I was surprised the cover fits all around this bulky machine and down to the table.
SewLibra: The 900CPX is a two needle machine with the stitches 5mm apart. A three needle coverstitch usually has a choice of 3mm or 6mm. The 5mm has been ok for me so far. I use a drug store dental pick to pull out the threads when ending the stitches.
SewLibra: The looper threading is easy. Pull the lever out, thread it with the looper thread, and push it back in. There is only one looper as opposed to a serger with two loopers.
SewLibra: The front panel has a guide for different stitches and a lever. When the lever is on the right it's for normal coverstitching. To the left tightens the looper thread for heavyweight fabrics. It's supposed to be on the right when threading.
SewLibra: I love having the free arm and more space on the right of the bed! Most coverstitch machines have neither, however more companies are adding those features now.
SewLibra: For the hems I used my Janome 900CPX using the bobbin and spool of olive thread from my sewing machine that I used for the tee construction for the needles and a black cone for the looper.
SewLibra: I used all serger cone thread in gray on my Janome 900CPX for the hem. I never use the foot that came with it, always the clear foot or clear foot with guide so I can end stitching exactly on top of where I began.
SewLibra: The sleeve and bodice hems were coverstitched. It all sailed through my Janome 900CPX on factory settings, no tunneling, no skipped stitches...I love this machine!
SewLibra: And THIS is why I love having my Janome 900CPX. I lowered the needle tensions to 2, looper to 1, differential feed to 1.0 and length to 4.0. No tunneling, no skipped stitches, and the back looks as it should. Same fabric just different lighting.
SewLibra: To prevent or at least minimize tunneling and slipping on this DBP I loosened the presser foot pressure, set the looper at 1.5, both needles at 2, kept the usual differential of 1.0 and stitch length of 3.5 on my Janome Coverpro 900CPX.
SewLibra: I coverstitched the curved hem first and here I'm using the free arm on my Janome 900CPX for the sleeve hems. I have absolutely no trouble with this CS machine and love it!
SewLibra: Using the clear foot with guide, my Janome 900CPX worked like a champ on this faux leather. I loosened the needles and loopers and used the longest stitch. I've been coverstitching over all the vertical seams for interest and to keep the SA down.
SewLibra: I used my Janome 900CPX coverstitch for the hem. I had the needles and tensions turned down and it was fine on my scrap, but got just a tad of tunneling on the garment itself. Oh well, black is forgiving for things like that!
