Brother 1034D favorite thread tensions. Keeping the loopers on 5 instead of factory 4 helps the loops hug the fabric raw edge.

Free arm on my Brother 1034D serger. I use it often and have since I bought in 2012. I had used a Janome serger for 9 years before that with no free arm.

I'm using the free arm on my serger to trim off the sleeve bands. This is one of many reasons I love my Brother 1034D! Not many sergers have free arms.

The free arm on my Brother 1034D serger is something I use for all my sleeve and pant hems. Love it! I pressed up a 3/4" hem on the sleeve hems and bottom hem, serged the edges, and topstitched with a straight stitch on the sewing machine.

Brother 1034D lower looper threading. It's easy! Just pull out the finger, wrap the thread over the clip and push the finger back in. Done!

Brother 1034D settings. I find setting the stitch width to 6 elimates the loops hanging off the raw edge. It hugs the edge nicely on most fabrics.

The settings I used on my Brother 1034D serger for the thick cable knit are as shown above. The differential feed has to be turned way up in order for the seams to lie flat.

Set up for using a bobbin on the left needle on my Brother 1034D serger. Coverstitch set up is the same on my Janome 900CPX. I do this when I want the seam thread to exactly match the fashion fabric. Otherwise I use all cones.

Hemline dust cover on my Brother 1034D serger. I actually have another cover made for sergers but the Hemline does fine on it too. Sure, I could make covers but I like the look of my machines. Now I'm more apt to actually cover them when not in use!
