SewLibra:
The Fabulous Fit padding system's outer cover has princess lines, center front and center back, but no visible side seams. I bought black and red draping tape from Wawak to mark those plus shoulders, bust, waist, a horizontal balance line and armscyes.
SewLibra:
The tape is 3/32" wide (really narrow!) X 20 yards. The sides of the rolls are super sticky so I'm going to store them in separate baggies or they will stick to each other....or anything else they're next to.
SewLibra:
I found this chart online on all the places that are usually marked on a dress form. I won't need them all however since my Fabulous Fit cover has some already in the form of seams.
SewLibra:
First I marked the side seams by placing a pin on the top and bottom of the dress form's side seams. I had to lift up the covers a bit to find those. Then I placed a couple of pins at bust level front and back to mark the bustline.
SewLibra:
I've placed the tape around the back and now going around the front, keeping as level as I can. The bust is supposed to be marked at the highest point of the bust. I may have to lower this line later on but want to see how it works out this way first.
SewLibra:
Next I marked the waist. For the horizontal balance line at the hip I decided to put it 6" below the waist. My upper hip and where I put the tape are both 39". This position looks close to where it is on the chart.
SewLibra:
For the armscyes I used a tank I made long ago that fits closely along my own armscye. I placed pins all around on one side only, then removed the top. I'll lower the bottom of it, that's coming up!
SewLibra:
My armscye depth is 6" so I placed a pin there on each side of the form. I followed the tape along the pins and dropped the bottom down to my pin marking 6". This tape will twist and stick to itself easily if not REALLY careful.
SewLibra:
My armscye is 17", 8.75" in front and 8.25" in back. After some fiddling and rearraging, I checked with my Curve Runner to make sure all was correct. A thin tape measure can be used as well, but there's nothing like a Curve Runner for curves!
SewLibra:
Now, how am I going to make the second armscye just like the first? I decided to try tracing my tape line on gift tissue paper and that worked great!
SewLibra:
I cut out the tracing and turned it the OPPOSITE DIRECTION for the second side. Armscyes, at least mine, tilt forward so it's not symmetrical. Used my air erasable pin to make dots around the circumference.
SewLibra:
The red tape will be used for actual draping on my dress form. This is just a quick example. Having a separate color will avoid confusion on what you're doing and what needs to come off when you're done.
