SewLibra:
This is my 4th sew of 2805, but first time using view A jewel neck with view B long sleeves. The fabric is white on black stars double brushed poly spandex knit with 125% 4-way stretch. For the neck band I used Telio rib knit I had in my stash.
SewLibra:
Jumping ahead here, but once I got the the long sleeves on and tried on the top, it reminded me of the Wizard of Id comic strip! All I need is a wand and a beacon. Haha!
SewLibra:
I had already made extensions for the pattern a long time ago. Top Left is for view A crew neck and view B neckline minus the turtle neck collar. Bottom left is a hip curve if I want it.
SewLibra:
I used both extensions, just pinned them on. Years ago I did an FBA and center front lengthening. By making parts of patterns like this you can avoid tracing every single view and not so much to store either.
SewLibra:
This is an uneven print. I chose to cut front, back, and sleeve centers with the large stars lined down the middle. In the end it wasn't apparent but at least it's all the same! Also previously I had widened the sleeves. Trying on sleeve here.
SewLibra:
Slippery fabric, but oh so soft! I pinned the middle of the stars in preparation for cutting each piece. The only piece left to cut is the second sleeve that I want to be just like the first sleeve.
SewLibra:
After pinning the fold I placed the first sleeve over the fold and put a pin where the shoulder tip is.
SewLibra:
Next put the shoulder tip of the sleeve pattern at the pin and cut the sleeve. These sleeves are symmetrical so no need to turn it over to the wrong side.
SewLibra:
I always cut my band 1.75" wide, fold vertically, press, sew with a 3/8" seam allowance, serge and topstitch below the band on the right side. This long Easy Rule II and rotary cutter make quick work of cutting.
SewLibra:
A try on with Wonder Clips again. The bodice is fine but I forgot how long this pattern is. I probably did that myself long ago but on this one I'll be cutting a lot off the hem. I want it mid-hip length.
SewLibra:
Tip: When serging in the round, when you get to where you started, serge only to where the beginning thread tail is cut off. Disengage the knife and overlap a few stitches. (See my comment below for the rest.)
SewLibra:
Pressing the serged neck band over a ham. I often use the fashion fabric for bands but rib knit is my preference. It looks like RTW with the little ridges. I need to buy more colors to keep around!
SewLibra:
Ready for topstitching below the band. It's not a necessity but it keeps the seam allowance down so less likely to get wonky or bother your skin.
SewLibra:
I love how easy the sleeves are on the Jalie 2805. Symmetrical sleeves, which I know are not the best for fit or movement in a woven but for stretchy knits it's fine. They fit perfectly into the armscye, no having to ease into the armscye.
SewLibra:
DPB (double brushed poly) can stick to itself due to the brushed finish. For serging the sleeve SA I pinned the layers together to the left of the presser foot so no fabric would get underneath and caught in the stitches.
SewLibra:
I used my Janome 900CPX coverstitch for the hem. I had the needles and tensions turned down and it was fine on my scrap, but got just a tad of tunneling on the garment itself. Oh well, black is forgiving for things like that!
SewLibra:
All done! I've been sewing my labels on the seam allowance lately as they have started to irritate my neck. Age and dry skin I guess. I hand sewed a little dot of red thread at the back neck so I know it's the back.
SewLibra:
Front view. It feels so comfortable and fits great! I hope not too Wizard of Id-ish. Hehe. I made the pants too which will be in another album.
