SewLibra: Itch To Stitch Crystal Cove Cami. This is a PDF only pattern and it includes sizes 00 to 20 with cup size choices.
SewLibra: My first time ordering fabric from Amazon, this was 1 of 5 that I ordered. 3 came directly from Amazon and arrived quickly (and wrinkled). One from Fabric.com came later, but there was a glitch between Amazon and Fabric Wholesale Direct for this one.
SewLibra: I was sent 2 yards of this crazy print that I would never have picked. I contacted Fabric Wholesale Direct, they said they would send the correct fabric, but sent me another 2 yards of this! I finally got my order and they told me to keep the 4 yards.
SewLibra: I needed to widen the back, as the first cami did not hang right. I started over by keeping size 12 for the upper bust/neckline and length. I used size 10 for the armscye and the rest a size 14. I took some of the curve out too.
SewLibra: The changes were better but I still needed a bit more width in the back right at bust level. I drew in a slight curve there and blended the line down to the hem. Surprisingly, I didn't even have to ease in the curve when I sewed the front to the back!
SewLibra: This is how the back piece looked after cutting the back piece.
SewLibra: Instead of using fusible interfacing on the facings like I always do, I used an old soft sheet. I just wanted to give it a try to see how I liked it...or not. I like it! Very soft and since I understitched the facing it stays in place.
SewLibra: Here I have the sheet interfacings sewn around the edges of the facings about 1/4" from the edge. A little more trouble than fusibles, but not bad.
SewLibra: I again made 1" straps instead of spaghetti straps so I can wear a regular bra. No strapless bras for me, thank you! Cut the strips 2 1/2" wide, fold, sew 1/4" SA, turn, and press with the seam in the middle underneath.
SewLibra: On this version I not make bias binding for the hem. I simply serged all around from the top back flap to the top of the other back flap, turned up once, pressed and topstitched.
SewLibra: Before pinning the facing to the bodice, make sure those straps are tucked downward between the facing and the bodice. It should look like this.
SewLibra: Even though I staystitched the neck edge, it stretched out badly and would not fit my facings! I steamed the hell out of it and manipulated it with my fingers until it fit. It worked. Whew!
SewLibra: Since the 1" straps are much wider than spaghetti straps, I marked the edges of the unseen straps. When sewing up to those lines, gradually narrow (taper) the SA from 1/2" to the lines drawn, so as not to catch the straps in your stitches.
SewLibra: Before clipping the curves and understitching, turn right side out and pull out all four straps. Make sure they are lined up and look the way you want them to look. Now is your chance to fix them if needed.
SewLibra: This shows my line of stitching, going 1/2" across the strap ends. I have trimmed the SA and notched the V at the neck, getting ready to clip the curves. Forgive the sloppy serging. I went off course around the curve and serged twice. Sloppy! Ha!.
SewLibra: All done! Maybe the crazy print will grow on me? With 4 yards I figured I'd go ahead and make something, then use the rest for muslin fabric.
SewLibra: Front view. At least, to be on the positive side, I have something else to wear with brown pants and shorts.
SewLibra: The back hangs straight now so my pattern alteration worked. Yay!
SewLibra: Pic for Patternreview. Self explanatory. Lol.
