SewLibra: I flared out the outside seam 3/4" and the inner seam 3/8" on both front and back pieces. My legs are too thin for big wide hems, it just looks weird. I'm using some orange wrapping tissue here.
SewLibra: I added 3/4" to the back rise via a wedge. The first time I made this pattern I felt the back pulled down somewhat when I sat.
SewLibra: Copying my altered tissue on to sturdier freezer paper.
SewLibra: In comparing this jeans cut pattern to one of my shorts slopers, you can see how much different the crotch curve is. I made the leg width just a little smaller.
SewLibra: If you increase the back rise, your pattern no longer lines up with the original. Line it up from the top to mark the pocket placement. I wrote the dimensions of the placement to help when pinning the pockets to the backs, making them perfectly even.
SewLibra: Altered front, back, and pocket. The pocket is back to original size U. I had cut them down on my first Jalie Eleonore and hubby said they looked too small. I think these look too big!
SewLibra: These shorts took less than a yard. I had 50" wide fabric and it took 30" in length.
SewLibra: Using the chalk lines I made for sewing my pocket design. My straight stitch Bernina foot #13 was perfect for this job! Sew your design before the sides and bottom edges are folded under.
SewLibra: Finished pockets and ready to be sewn to the back pieces.
SewLibra: I marked my ruler with tape and used a Chaco Liner pen to mark the inner sewing line after sewing the pockets on the back pieces.
SewLibra: Jeans topstitching thread - ugh! I had the hardest time with it on all my machines. If I didn't use a piece of folded tissue wrapping paper at the beginning of the seam, the needle would just go up and down in one spot.
SewLibra: The instructions do not tell you to press open the seam on the waistband. If you don't though, it will be very bulky at the sides due to the 1" wide elastic.
SewLibra: I used tape on my clear ruler and white Chaco Liner pen to make a guide. I wanted to make sure I caught the hem underside when using my covertstitch machine. I used a chain stitch there.
SewLibra: Front. If you buy a dark indigo denim, wash them several times first. I only laundered once and it caused blue fingers and nails. Thankfully the dye came off my Bernina extension table!
