SewLibra: Simplicity 1613
SewLibra: I used my TNT altered Hotpattern tee to determine the size and shape.
SewLibra: I used the short sleeve I just drafted from another pattern to determine the length and curve.
SewLibra: I cut the pattern and if I want the longer sleeve in the future I can tape it with removeable tape.
SewLibra: I tapered the sleeve seam starting and 1/2" at the hem tapering to the armscye. I just folded it, didn't cut or tape in case I want the longer version later.
SewLibra: Both sides tapered and sleeve pattern done.
SewLibra: Mark the front and back of this pattern, as they are almost identical. Even though the back has a double notch and the front has a single notch, those are gone once the sleeves are sewn and serged.
SewLibra: The pattern has a band around the front that I didn't want. Instead, I folded the entire neck and sleeve edges under 3/4".
SewLibra: To keep the curved areas in place for pressing, I pin directly into the ironing board.
SewLibra: Instead of elastic casing, I made 5 rows of shirring 1/8" apart on the right side of the fold at the neckline. I used the notch inside the foot for a guide.
SewLibra: Inside of top after shirring. Hit both sides with steam from your iron to gather it even more and set in the shirring.
SewLibra: The straps were about 2" too long for me. I needed 8.5" so I cut them, turned the edges to the inside, and machine stitched them closed.
SewLibra: I made sure the straps were positioned to hide my bra straps, then sewed the left and right edges with a straight stitch. The shirring hides the stitches on the right side.
SewLibra: It looks funny when it's flat!
SewLibra: I actually like it without the straps, like a peasant top, but I hate strapless bras.
SewLibra: If you don't mind a strapless (or no) bra, you can leave the straps off.
SewLibra: I might make more of these. Shirring is fun!
SewLibra: I like the fit and comfort of this top. The shirring doesn't bind the shoulders at all.
