SewLibra:
Place tissue paper over your RTW tank top and trace the outline with a disappearing ink marker. This will not harm your tank if it comes through. I use pins in a cardboard grid to keep it in place and on grain.
SewLibra:
Mark your center line and make sure you have traced both front and back necklines just past the center line. You only need half the tank, front and back.
SewLibra:
Cut out your tissue pattern, with the back neckline attached and transfer to paper. I use freezer paper. True all your lines with rulers and a french curve.
SewLibra:
Dry press your tissue paper just like any pattern. I should have said that first! Here is a photo of front tissue on RTW tank before adding seam allowances.
SewLibra:
Add hem allowance and seam allowances for the sides and shoulders. The neck and armcscyes will have binding, so don't add any there.
SewLibra:
Next cut out the back neckline to reveal the front piece. Trace the front to paper and true just like you did for the back.
SewLibra:
Once you have added your seam allowances, compare front and back from armscye to hem to make sure they match up.
SewLibra:
Use your favorite method for binding. I cut mine 1.75 in. wide, sew a seam to make a circle, fold lenghwise right side out, serge the raw edge, and apply to the neck and armscyes.
SewLibra:
I like that the straps are wider to cover bra straps and the neck isn't too wide like a lot of my tanks.
