SewLibra:
Did not do an FBA, but had to lengthen the front because of it. Using a French curve for the alteration.
SewLibra:
New Look 6598 collar and front facing, piece 5, and back facing, piece 6. Using some scraps I'm going to sew a curved piece into a square hole! The instructions on the pattern for this are not clear. FYI, I did not use interfacing for this demo.
SewLibra:
Sew the seam on the collar first and press open. Stitch 5/8" from edge on long edge of piece 5 to the first dot. Pivot and stitch straight to other dot. That will be 3/4" from edge. Pivot at second dot and go back to 5/8". Clip corners to stitching.
SewLibra:
Clip the curve on the back facing, piece 6 to, but not through, the staystitching. Be sure to preserve the mark for the center.
SewLibra:
Next pull up the corner of the back facing and match it to the corner of the collar. Pin along that side and do the same to the other side.
SewLibra:
This is how the back looks. I did this fast, so yours will look better by taking your time! However, there will be fabric showing above the dots so don't worry about that.
SewLibra:
On the machine, turn the fabric with the back facing down, even though the pins are on the bottom. This way you can follow the line of stitching you already have. Pull the pins out right before the foot reaches them.
SewLibra:
I am at the dot with the needle down and presser foot UP. Carefully smooth out the fabric, turn the fabric (pivot) and continue stitching all the way to the end.
SewLibra:
Here is the wrong side with the seams trimmed and pressed open. You can serge if it you want, but it might create bulk. This won't show in the end anyway.
