SewLibra:
After 4 days of prep, dying, sealing and cleaning, the ugly old grout looks pretty good! I will NEVER do it again. LOL.
SewLibra:
Before - Pantry and desk. It will be chopped to make 8 feet more counter space. Upper cabinets recessed and lower cabinets the same depth.
SewLibra:
To this! Except the countertop will be level and no desk. We don't use it and I will get storage where the chair goes. This is going to open the kitchen and make it look wider.
SewLibra:
Quartz Countertop Samples. Just beginning to make decisions. This will be a long process.
SewLibra:
Quartz: Silestone Blanco City. Finally decided on this one. It has flecks of mostly beige, gray and white. The flecks are small so it won't be too busy.
SewLibra:
The bamboo cabinets will be placed with the grain going horizontally. A modern look, all over the place on Houzz.
SewLibra:
Hardware samples from contractor. We are going with brushed stainless, simple and curved.
SewLibra:
Kohler, one big open white porcelain sink. It will be undermount and the countertop will cover all the holes. Purchased at Ferguson's.

Day before, March 11, 2014. All our stuff is out except the essentials: coffee and wine!
SewLibra:
Temporary kitchen Part 5. Dishwashing station, in the bathroom. Yuck. I'm using the plastic tub in one of the sinks.
SewLibra:
My side of the gargage. Poor Corolla is parked on the driveway. The other side has the contractor's trailer for hauling away the old cabinets.
SewLibra:
Getting matching cabinets and canned lights in the laundry room too, since it is right off the kitchen.
SewLibra:
Day 6, March 17. No work was done over the weekend, except for me trying to throw together meals in 3 different rooms. Today the drywall mud/patches were done.

Day 6. I finally found the secondary tile at Daltile. It is called Urban Putty and will be subway 3" x 6", not square like this. The backsplash will be from countertop to the bottom of the cabinets, 18" high and there are 28 lineal feet to cover.
