Yellow sulphur butterflies such as this would have been nectaring on the Fayetteville Square on November 12, 2009, if city park employees hadn't removed the flowers to make space for Christmas lights. Trading natural beauty for a higher electrical bill. D

A week ago, the southwest corner of the garden around the Fayetteville square was covered with migrating monarchs and a few other species of butterfly nectaring on the flowers. On November 12, it was a wasteland cleared to make way for a bunch of lights
