AG Martin: We did a 620 mile version of this classic tour- Self supported of course!
AG Martin: Day One. Chile is a GREAT country, friendly, safe and free (as in freedom).
AG Martin: Lake District, Chile
AG Martin: Patagonia, Northern Section Near Puerto Montt, Lake District, Rain Day
AG Martin: My bike (now sold) and typical beautiful scenery. Carried a tent, sleeping bag, Jet Boil Stove and on and on... No support other than ourselves.
AG Martin: Sally, typical day. Traffic became less and less as we neared O'Higgins. I'm overly protective of Sally and for the most part, always ride behind her... (except hill top sprints- ha)
AG Martin: Lakes
AG Martin: Sally after a long hill. Yes, I yelled out, "Race you to the top!" And won handily as you can see.
AG Martin: Wild or stealth / hidden from view camp. Rained that night. This is not a campground, just a little jeep type trail we followed to this flat spot.
AG Martin: Mid-Patagonia, Better Cycling Roads, but with Rain Still
AG Martin: Water was never an issue
AG Martin: Turquoise colored lakes due to melting glaciers.
AG Martin: Portions are paved towards the north. Because this is a "road to nowhere," there is very little traffic. And less and less towards the south / the end at Villa O'Higgins.
AG Martin: Mountains, rivers, and lakes...
AG Martin: Lakes everywhere.
AG Martin: Sally did all the logistics. Neat and inexpensive cabin on a ranch.
AG Martin: Ranch Cabin, Chile
AG Martin: Wide enough shoulders 99% of the way, and very little traffic.
AG Martin: Beautiful Coyhaique (pronounced Koy-he-kay) in central Patagonia. Cool town.
AG Martin: We took several ferry's and a couple buses.
AG Martin: Working ferry, not a cruise ship.
AG Martin: Ferrys move goods and people around Chile
AG Martin: O'Higgins was near the end of the trip. We took ferry's into Argentina, and had a 5 mile hike-a-bike with loaded touring bikes on a single track as well.
AG Martin: Some rain before another ferry.
AG Martin: 2 bus rides on this trip. Very nice buses too.
AG Martin: Towards the beginning of our trip in the Lake District. Would be an easy place to live.
AG Martin: Lake District, Chile Bike Ride. Nothing like this area in the US. Lush farm and ranch land under a backdrop of volcanoes.
AG Martin: After one month on the road, back to the hotel we started from.
AG Martin: Packing Up. We wore our cycling shoes from the moment we left Crested Butte, CO until we returned. We "Travel Light"... Song from Tinder Sticks Lyrics below >>>
