AG Martin: 2,200 feet elevation to start (near the park entrance). Tahoma Glacier Route, Mt Rainier, and a looonnnggg way to go.
AG Martin: Over 12k feet of climbing in 2 days. Big route.
AG Martin: Tahoma Glacier Route, Mt Rainier. To me, one of the most beautiful and remote lines up Mt Rainier.
AG Martin: A steep route that was even steeper on day 2 as we neared the top.
AG Martin: All three of us punched thru crevasses on the way up. These things are scary- blackness is due to the depth...
AG Martin: Tahoma Glacier Route, Mt Rainier. Broken Glacier with many crevasses
AG Martin: Tahoma Glacier Route, Mt Rainier. Steep pitch. 2-3 inches of frozen crusty sugar snow over hard ice. Self arrest would be a challenge here. I think we put in a single ice screw per pitch.
AG Martin: My friends let me, the lightest, have this crevasse lead over a thin bridge. Thanks for thinking of me Tom and Scott. Deep below, but crossing this bridge was the only way to proceed up this broken up route. We were all happy to be past this pitch.
AG Martin: Second night after a big day. Slept in a mini crater, in the actual crater, on top of Mt Rainier. The smell of sulfur is everywhere as are steam vents.
AG Martin: I rode the bike about 10 or so miles down from the rangers station to avoid a car shuttle. We stashed the bike in the undergrowth and picked it up on the way out.
