The elephant in our garden could be our "volunteer" plants and what to do with them . . . A weed is a plant where you don't want it but sometimes it's just great if you can move it where it is wanted.

First volunteer for this year's garden -- Seminole pumpkin seed sprouted in the pumpkin that was used to bake the winter squash cake for our January 25th kick-off.

We haven't planted cucamelons aka Mexican gherkins aka mouse melons since the first planting five years ago. These babies just keep volunteering.

Sunflowers planted in tubes. When the sunflowers reach the top of the tube, we'll remove the tube and pack soil around the stem of the plant to encourage deeper, stronger roots. No tipsy sunflowers in our garden ;-)
