Bookhenge: The elephant in our garden could be our "volunteer" plants and what to do with them . . . A weed is a plant where you don't want it but sometimes it's just great if you can move it where it is wanted.
Bookhenge: Volunteer plant???
Bookhenge: Oh, you mean a weed???
Bookhenge: First volunteer for this year's garden -- Seminole pumpkin seed sprouted in the pumpkin that was used to bake the winter squash cake for our January 25th kick-off.
Bookhenge: For example, our pineapple tomatillo aka ground cherry sanctuary . . .
Bookhenge: We haven't planted cucamelons aka Mexican gherkins aka mouse melons since the first planting five years ago. These babies just keep volunteering.
Bookhenge: Beautiful hosta framed by volunteer Chinese basil (purplish leaves).
Bookhenge: Volunteer mushroom ;-) Probably the only kind we'll grow this year.
Bookhenge: Volunteer squash???
Bookhenge: Volunteer sunflower
Bookhenge: Planted tomatoes
Bookhenge: Volunteer tomatoes and, of course, purple Malabar spinach
Bookhenge: Giant arugula????? Is it edible???? Foragers, please weigh in . . .
Bookhenge: Turnips -- Dig to the left and No-Dig to the right
Bookhenge: Height-wise, Dig is a bit taller.
Bookhenge: No-Dig, shorter by about an inch
Bookhenge: Guess which is Dig?
Bookhenge: Dig to the left
Bookhenge: No-Dig to the right -- about an inch taller and fuller
Bookhenge: Hops vine is hopping . . .
Bookhenge: New roof for blueberry enclosure
Bookhenge: We'll probably have angry birds ;-)
Bookhenge: Those are some tall blueberry bushes
Bookhenge: Loaded with berries . . .
Bookhenge: Bountiful, beautiful berries
Bookhenge: Sunflowers planted in tubes. When the sunflowers reach the top of the tube, we'll remove the tube and pack soil around the stem of the plant to encourage deeper, stronger roots. No tipsy sunflowers in our garden ;-)
Bookhenge: Beautifying the compost bins
Bookhenge: Meanwhile, back at the bee removal . . .
Bookhenge: Bees are confused -- where was our front door???
Bookhenge: I thought you had the key. No, you were supposed to have the key.
