Entering Shigatse (Xigaze). These are the first trees we have seen since the first night. We were down to an elevation of 12,738'! I think this was also even the first night we had access to hot water and showers and toilets, but maybe that is tomorrow.

I think just four of us chose this beuatiful little restaurant for lunch. The food was fantastic and the girls were adorable. We resolved to bring the whole group back for dinner.

While the man at left feeds a giant burner with juniper insence, the woman is prostrating herself around the 70,000 sq. meter monastery. Founded in 1447, it is an important monastery and the traditional home of the Panchen Lamas. See Martin Scorsesse's LI

Gate to the Chapel of Jampa. The cat was on the step for hours. A monk came out and poked it to see if it was alive.

A woman pauses to pray before entering the Chapel of Jampa. This chapel houses the Maitreya Buddha, the "world's largest guilded statue". Maitreya is also known as "The Mother Buddha" and the "Future Buddha".

This huge drape covers the entrance to the Maitreya Buddha. I wish I could show you pics but they were heavily restricted. There are google pics. In person, it is so stunning it is almost painful.
