Adventure_Alternative: On Day 3 above 12,000' it is common to feel yourself slowing down due to altitude. It is important to keep up the intake of water to 3 litres at least per day. Move slowly and breathe deeply.

Adventure_Alternative: Trekking in the sun on day 2 to Shira Plateau in shorts, T-shirts and trekking boots. This is the move into Alpine heath and the clouds in the background show we are already well above 10,000 feet.

Adventure_Alternative: Barranco Campsite with the bulk of the summit massif right above us. Plenty of room here and one of the best sites on the mountain.
Adventure_Alternative: From Barranco to Karanga Valley on Day 4 involves a scramble which is not difficult but lots of fun, generally it's very busy.
Adventure_Alternative: Using hands, the scramble from Barranco is quite easy.
Adventure_Alternative: On the way to the crater rim - Stella Point at 19,000' - and people are warming up but finding the last few hundred metres a struggle.
Adventure_Alternative: With the sun-up comes the final few hundred feet to the crater rim and the terrain on the route from Barafu is still a path but gets dusty.
