Alfred Fartknocker: I found myself looking straight up at the topsides of Vulcan XH558 at Leuchars as it passed directly overhead. It's a big jet to do a wingover- but then it's been looped and rolled before. This wasn't taken from the spectator area.

Alfred Fartknocker: A Nowegian AF F-16AM arrives at Leuchars the day before the annual air show there. 672 is 80-3672, a Fokker built jet that survives as a G.I. at Kjevik- which must be in Norway.
Alfred Fartknocker: SAAB AJ37 Viggen 37098 flies on as SE-DXN with the Swedish AF HF and is seen here at Leuchars. I'd never seen one fly before- maybe if they'd been in NATO...
Alfred Fartknocker: A pair of Folland/ H.S. Gnat T.1 fly at Leuchars many years after the type was retired. XR538/ G-RORI is at North Weald these days, but does it fly? The other is marked 'XS111' but is really XP504/ G-TIMM since w/o in a fatal accident.
Alfred Fartknocker: The annual show at Leuchars was a great place to get quite close to the flying aircraft. Gnat T.1 XR538 is just closing up prior to starting its display. Coded 01, this is how it looked during its 4 FTS days.

Alfred Fartknocker: Another old An-12? Not at all- the Chinese produce the Shaanxi Y8F-200W, a stretched and improved version of the old Soviet era workhorse. 01 yel is with the Kazakh National Guard, seen here at Astana. It is brand new.

Alfred Fartknocker: The IAF Museum at Hatzerim is on a huge site. This unmarked Ouragan turned out to be #69. Mystere '007' is really #07 and the spare fin belongs to another Mystere, #10.
Alfred Fartknocker: QinetiQ took over from the RAE although I never unstood why we sold it. This Alpha Jet is ZJ646, seen at Fairford. It flew as 98+55 & later 41+55 in Germany before coming to the UK.

Alfred Fartknocker: I wonder how many look at this and immediately recognise a Yak-23? The Bulgarians operated about a hundred of these really early jets, known as 'FLORA' to NATO. 119 is preserved at Bezmer AB.
