cdavidtrike:
Ready to pull the wheel off.
cdavidtrike:
5 mm allen wrench and tapped the wheel off the axle.
cdavidtrike:
Inside of the bake hub looks good at approx 2400 miles.
cdavidtrike:
2 bolts holding the brake back plate on (only one had a washer).
cdavidtrike:
Already removed the two 8 mm nuts with two 13 mm open end wrenches. Keep track of the 2 nuts, washer and rubber washer from the inside.
cdavidtrike:
Check the brake cable setup for reassembly later.
cdavidtrike:
Side look at cable.
cdavidtrike:
Brake back unit came right off the axle on the right side one, not so on the left one later.
cdavidtrike:
Here is the right strut removed.
cdavidtrike:
Remove the rubber washer, metel washer and boot. Under the left side boot I found a rubber gommet that was not on the right one, not sure what it was
cdavidtrike:
Put the two bolts back in so I would not lose them.
cdavidtrike:
Used some scrap wood drilled to the 8 mm shaft size and fastened it with the washer and nut from the inside of the velo. Be sure to remove the 2 small
cdavidtrike:
Here is that washer and nut.
cdavidtrike:
Set screws out. I used a plactic mallet to tap firmly to remove the outer strut body. The fit was tight.
cdavidtrike:
Here is the inner upper part of the strut. Took it apart and cleaned with degreaser and then acetone.
cdavidtrike:
Inside of lower outer body. Cleaned it the same as the upper.
cdavidtrike:
I had these two springs in the bottom of th lower unit. Red on the bottom Blue on top.
cdavidtrike:
There is a botton plastic piece and another plactic piece between the two springs.
cdavidtrike:
Inside view, I did find some machining metal scrap (curly metal) when I cleaned it out.
cdavidtrike:
Another view.
cdavidtrike:
All clened up and ready to reassemble.
cdavidtrike:
I used Phil's Tenacious OIl on reassembly. Just reinstall back on the velo in reverse of the removal.
