raleighsheffield: Ok while this is still Italy I'm enroute to Switzerland so I threw the next pics in this album. What follows are pictures of Lake Como, north of Milan. The area is beautiful
raleighsheffield: Rock formations along Lake Como
raleighsheffield: You never know what you'll get snapping pictures at 60mph. Lucked out.
raleighsheffield: Serene. Lots of beautiful homes and resorts on this very large lake. George Clooney has a place somewhere around here. For sure that is NOT his house
raleighsheffield: I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of these photos considering we are moving right along and I'm shooting through a window
raleighsheffield: I think I see Clooney's compound!
raleighsheffield: And there are the snow capped Italian Alps
raleighsheffield: We've curved east away from the north end of Lake Como headed for the end of the line at Tirano, Italy
raleighsheffield: Look closely to see how every bit of land is used on the slopes to grow grapes
raleighsheffield: Change trains and lunch in Tirano. Switzerland is less than five miles away
raleighsheffield: Two weeks and surviving so far. With all the walking I think I may have lost a pound or two. I can see my navel now but I'll spare you the confirmation
raleighsheffield: The Bernina Express. A very scenic route through the Alps in eastern Switzerland. Check out Goggle.
raleighsheffield: This is narrow gauge track so that the railroad could be built with a smaller footprint given the terrain. Just wait!
raleighsheffield: A panorama car for perfect viewing
raleighsheffield: The engineering on this route is a marvel. We were just on that track below and did tight spirals to gain altitude
raleighsheffield: It gets better
raleighsheffield: With our heads in the clouds
raleighsheffield: We've reached the snow line
raleighsheffield: Welcome back winter
raleighsheffield: Looks cold
raleighsheffield: Added some cars enroute
raleighsheffield: Back to spring
raleighsheffield: Picture perfect
raleighsheffield: Walking to hotel in Chur
