Online clearance sale at Macy's 70% off! Not much left, but although I liked the coat I hated the huge faux fur hood. Figured I could fix it since the hood zips off.
SewLibra:
Haha! This hood is ridiculous. I like all the deep zippered pockets though, and the fit of the coat is great.
SewLibra:
I started with a seam ripper for the backstitches and to get the seam partially open. Had be careful not to puncture the fabric. It's polyester, I think maybe ripstop?
SewLibra:
After I got the seam open I used my small sharp scissors to cut the thread the rest of the way. Some of the fur got caught in the process. Messy!
SewLibra:
The fur is off and the lining is longer than the outer hood. I left it for the next day thinking I would have to trim that off and try to press a seam allowance on low heat. Motto: Don't try to figure things out late at night. Lol.
SewLibra:
I didn't need to cut that off! When I turned up the lining it all fell into place. I used Wonder Clip to hold the seam in place. That fabric is too tough for pins, plus the holes they make.
SewLibra:
Using a 70/10 microtex needle, navy poly thread, and an edge stitch foot, I sewed close to the edge.
SewLibra:
The hood is still big, and it's stiff from being new, but I'm much happier without that silly fur.
