Seven years with my 2015 Subaru Impreza and I'm sick of having my husband jump my car all the time. Apparently I don't drive enough to keep the battery going due to all the electronics draining it when the car is off.
SewLibra:
The positive (red) clamp goes on the positive terminal that has a red cap on it. The black clamp goes on the chassis, NOT the battery.

The charger has to rest on this spot or it won't reach the outlet. It takes hours to charge the battery and this part gets hot. After plugging into AC, push the button above the green light and select LEAD ACID. When charged the unit turns itself off.
SewLibra:
The AC connection is the last step in hooking it up and the first step in taking it off. While the charger is on, you can press the button on the front of the unit to see the progress, and it will stay on.
SewLibra:
To see if the car needs charged, use the voltmeter first. Take the plugs off the end of the cords. Attach the black one in the middle hole and orange one on the right.
SewLibra:
Turn the knob to the left on 20. The knob can be turned either left or right for other uses.
SewLibra:
Set the meter somewhere on the front part of the car where you can view it and touch the tip of the orange cord to the battery's positive terminal and the black to the negative terminal. Close-ups coming next.
SewLibra:
Hubby said 12.3 to 12.4 is good so the car doesn't need a charge. But 12.0 - 12.2 or below I can put the trickle charger on and it shouldn't take too long at that point. OR I can drive around aimlessly and waste my time and gas like I've been doing. :(
SewLibra:
Make sure to turn the voltmeter to off when done. This thing takes regular household batteries.

Glad I learned how to use the voltmeter and trickle charger before hubs left for nine days. I needed both!
